Just in case you were sleeping during that government class where party platforms and planks were discussed, here’s a refresher. The various political parties, at several level, develop statements concerning what they believe in and will work to accomplish if elected. Each particular issue or position is called a plank. Put all the planks together and you have their platform.
Paul Begala, who writes for Newsweek, recently conducted a review of some state party platforms, both Republican and Democrat, and has a few things to report. To my way of thinking what he reports speaks volumes about just how insane things are becoming on the political right.
