USS JPK, Jr. is Born

Some of you may know that back in the 1960s I served aboard the USS Joseph P. Kennedy, Jr. DD-850. Recently I came across this photo of the ship being launched on July 26, 1945 at Bethlehem Steel Co., Quincy, MA. The Kennedy was decommissioned in the 1970s and today is one of the US Navy ships on display at Battleship Cove Maritime Museum at Fall River, MA.

The JPK was born too late to for action in WWII but did play a role in the Korean and Vietnam conflicts, the Cuban Missile Crisis, and NASA’s capsule recovery programs during the days of the man in space program.
