Beer lovers take note. In the next month there will be two major beer gatherings in downtown Cincinnati. First will be Cincinnati Beerfest which is rated as one of the top 10 brew events in the nation. Beerfest takes place on February 14 & 15 at the Duke Energy Convention Center and will feature over 350 different beers to sample.
The second event will be the 22nd edition of Bockfest on March 7, 8 & 9 and seems to be mostly an Over the Rhine event. There is no entry fee except for participation in the brewery tours or the 5k run. This sounds more like a pub crawl but a free shuttle will haul you around the various locations (bars).
Bockfest™ occurs during the first full weekend of March. It begins with a parade on Friday evening that starts at Arnold’s Bar & Grill, Cincinnati’s oldest saloon. The parade is lead by a goat pulling a keg of bock beer and the reigning Sausage Queen. It ends at Bockfest Hall where the ceremonial first keg is blessed, the best Parade entries are honored, and Bockfest™ officially begins.
If all that didn’t quench your thirst you could head north and attend the Ohio Craft Brewers Association’s 8th Winter Warm Fest in downtown Cleveland. Lots of craft beers to taste, several good food trucks on premise, and Austin Walkin’ Cane pumpin’ out some great blues music. I’ve heard Cane on several occasions and he’s the real deal.
There’s lots of beer festivals going on in Ohio and the three listed are just those in the near future. We’ve already missed several, including the January Columbus festival. Don’t like the cold weather, stay tuned for information about the summer festivals.
PS: Don’t forget about our own Blues, Brews & Blues Winter Festival on February 22 at the Greenfield Eagles Lodge. Sponsored by G3 with proceeds going to help SPARK! Creative Artspace. $5.00 at the door.
