This caught my attention on the nightly news a few days ago but I wasn’t sure I got the facts correct. The news item had to do with fast-food restaurants and how they are doing with no dine-in business.
If you’ve ever tried to get down Jefferson Street in Greenfield at any rush hour you know that McDonald’s drive-thru window may be the
busiest place in town and COVID-19 doesn’t seem to have slowed things down. Here are the facts:
- Of the hamburger joints, on average 575 of their customers are drive-thru.
- The Mexican fast-food joints, i.e. Taco Bell, earn 40% at the window.
- The many chicken joints earn around 38% from the drive-thru.
- The golden window, however, belongs to McDonald’s where typically 70% of the dollars come through their drive-thru windows.
