I laid down for a short nap this afternoon and when I awoke the news was on my TV and they were reporting a bit about National Guard units being removed from WDC. The report included a tweet from Trump claiming that he had ordered the action because “everything was under perfect control.”
I got a brief chuckle from it because it reminded me of Iraq’s famous Minister in Information, Baghdad Bob, who insisted his nation had
You know it’s been charged that Donald Trump took to refuge in a secret bunker deep beneath the WH when the protestors in Franklin Park got too close. While we don’t really know if that happened we do now that it took a sizable miliartyesque force and a serious threat to unleash the 82nd Airborne onto we the people to clear the
TRUMP BIBLE SCHOLAR: “President Donald Trump is praising plans to introduce Bible study to public schools, even though his former pastor has revealed that Trump never went to Bible study or even attended church.” (HuffPost)
Someone said something earlier about Ms. Trump’s modeling photos and it jarred loose this thought. Remember Nipplegate in 2004? The Super Bowl show in which Janet Jackson’s breast was very briefly exposed to the world? Janet Jackson is an entertainer and dancer who was strutting her stuff all over the world stage in a very hot number with Justin Timberlake.
Well the bare tit lasted a second but the outrage went on for weeks. Conservatives all over American wanted Congress to investigate Jackson’s boob and write laws preventing such things from happening again.
It struck me how ironic and hypocritical the far-right is when it comes to the female form. While a nano second of boob throws them into a titfit they don’t seem to give that same nano second’s concern about the dozens of scantily clad photos of potential first lady, Melania Trump. Photos that can be found in every corner of the Internet.
And speaking of first ladies. Those same hypocrites have often aimed their ire at Michelle Obama for the clothing choices she’s made. Well, I have checked with the fashion editor of Chapman’s General Store and been informed that anything Ms. Obama’s worn in public was appropriate, tasteful, and stylish.
One thing we all know, however, is that conservatives like a good set of racks as much as the liberal they’re standing the required distance from. In California they were called topless bars. Elsewhere they are known as titty bars. In conservative North Carolina they are politely referred to as gentlemen’s clubs. Inside them all the same old product is being sold.
So let’s end this with a little self reflection. Look at these three photos and tell me which stirs your carnal urges the most.
Here’s your homework assignment. Name one American war, other than the American Revolutionary War and the War of 1812, that was about protecting the freedom of the American people. Don’t waste your time because there haven’t been any. The Revolutionary War was to gain our freedom and the War of 1812 to keep it. Other than that, our wars have been to expand or protect political and economic interest.
I know many of you will think I’m being unpatriotic and dissing our service people but that’s not my intent. I’m just trying to deny you the argument that wars are justified because they protect our freedom. While protecting freedom may someday be a cause it wasn’t for the Mexican-American War, Spanish-American War, either world wars, Korea, Vietnam, Gulf, Iraq, Afghanistan, or any of the many times we’ve intervened in the affairs of small nations of the Caribbean or Central and South America. Protecting our freedom will also not be a valid justification for America becoming militarily involved in Syria’s civil war.
Protecting America’s freedom is an age old pitch used by the P.T. Barnums who always know how to make a sucker of the public for the advancement of their personal interests. The Barnums of Vietnam included such hucksters as Dow Chemical who besides making millions from the war gave us that great movie line, “I love the smell of napalm in the morning.” Don’t be surprised if the pitchmen for Syrian involvement includes the Raytheon Corporation who today makes all the Tomahawk missiles. Oh, and the Navy destroyers and submarines from which those missiles will be launched, they were built by household names like Westinghouse, General Electric and General Dynamics. I wonder what sales pitches their hired guns are throwing at congress about now, just as the Pentagon is sending a fifth destroyer into the Eastern Mediterranean.
If president Obama does decide to involve America in Syria I just don’t want to hear we did it to protect our freedom. That line should be a no sale!
Just when I mistakenly came to believe the issue of President Obama’s birth had morphed into a non-issue along comes Donald Trump fanning the flames of far-right insanity. But, given the increasing popularity of Canadian born presidential hopeful, Ted Cruz, I’m wondering how the birthers will cover their hypocritical asses leading up to 2016. Obama’s mother was a native-born American citizen, as is Cruz’s mother. Constitutionally speaking, that makes both men qualified to run for the presidency.
