There should be a law requiring that when a politician accuses another politician of “playing politics” he/she should have a quarter-inch of their tongue cut off. Now that sounds like a Sharia law I could go for! 🙂

Anti-Sharia Bills Written by Hasidic Lawyer – The Daily Beast
Anti-Sharia Bills Written by Hasidic Lawyer – The Daily Beast.
The threat of Sharia law superseding the US Constitution and over 200 years of constitutional precedent is such a non-issue it’s incredible that any state is giving it serious consideration. Of all the major social, educational, economic, and political issues facing every level of government in America, why are legislatures giving this the light of day?
My only conclusion is, it is fear driven legislation whose purpose is purely for political posturing.
Random Thought, 7/30/11
In 1999 the US had a budget surplus and it was predicted that by 2009 we’d be debt free for the first time since Andrew Jackson’s administration. Well, after two terms of “W”, two major military engagements, several unfunded tax cuts, and Medicare Part B (unfunded entitlement expansion) we find ourselves on the brink of economic collapse. Being Responsible vs Economic Anarchy?
In the late 1960s I led a discussion at a California junior college regarding the then current condition of California’s public schools. This was the era of the SDS, the Black Panthers, the Weather Underground and other militant, anarchists, groups that were making a name for themselves. In the spirit of that time, many of those participating in the discussion were of the mindset that the state’s schools simply needed to be shut down, torn down, and rebuilt from the ground up. It would result in educational anarchy, a decades worth of young people might not have access to any formal education, but many present believed that out of the mayhem would arise a new and much better public education system. Continue reading Being Responsible vs Economic Anarchy?
Fear For Political Gain
I had a person call me this morning regarding a Sunday news program she’d watched. Mainly she just wanted to voice her belief that the only goal of the political right was to defeat Obama in 2012. She also voiced her belief that the right was employing any means necessary to do so, including fear tactics.
I didn’t bother telling her she was preaching to the choir but after the conversation ended I read an article on The Daily Beast about right-wing presidential candidate, Herman Cain, saying he supported a community’s right to deny Muslims a permit to build a mosque in their town. He based his opinion on insisting their goal was to subvert our way of life by inserting Sharia Law into our legal system.
Sad thing is, fear works.
